Layers of the Earth
E.SE.06.53 - Describe layers of the Earth as a lithosphere (crust and upper mantle), convecting mantle, and dense metallic core.
- Geologist- Scientist that study the force that make and shape of Earth.
- Rock- The material that forms Earth’s surface.
- Geology- The study of planet Earth
- Pressure- The force pushing on a surface or area.
- Crust- The layer of rock that forms Earth’s outer skin.
- Basalt- A dark dense rock with a fine texture.
- Granite- A rock that has bigger crystals that the Basalt and is not as dense.
- Mantle- Solid layer of hot rock.
- Lithosphere- The uppermost part of the mantle and the crust together form a rigid layer.
- Asthenosphere- A soft or weak layer of the crust.
- Outer Core- The layer of molten metal that covers the innercore.
- Innercore- A dense ball of solid metal.
