An organism’s energy role in an ecosystem may be that of a producer, consumer, or decomposer.
- Producer- An organism that makes its own food.
- Consumer- An organism that obtains energy by feeding on other organisms.
- Herbivore- consumer that eats only plants
- Carnivore- consumer that eats only other animals
- Omnivore- A consumer that eats both plants and animals
- Scavenger- a carnivore that eats the bodies of dead organisms
- Decomposer- Organisms that break down waste and dead organisms and return the raw materials to the environment.
